However, the scale at which a salt lamp could purify a room’s air is debatable. Experts argue that a lamp’s ability to clean the air would require a massive salt surface area—far more significant than a typical salt lamp.

The second concept is the emission of negative ions. In a world filled with electronic devices like computers, televisions, and smartphones, we’re surrounded by positive ions. These positive ions can create an electrical imbalance in the air, leading to various health issues like stress, sleep disorders, and allergies.

Salt lamps are touted as natural negative ion generators. The idea is that when the lamp is heated, it releases negative ions, helping neutralize the electrical imbalance in the environment. The process is akin to what happens around waterfalls, mountains, or after a thunderstorm—environments known for their high negative ion concentration and invigorating air quality.

However, scientific research questioning the extent to which salt lamps produce negative ions shows that the amount is minimal, likely insufficient to generate significant health benefits.

Many of the studies exploring the impact of negative ions on health have been conducted using commercial ionizers, not salt lamps.
